Do you have a drink problem?

In the news today is a story that claims more than half of women in the UK have a drinking problem…

WOW, that’s a lot…

Consider that women should only consume 21 units of alcohol a week

There are about 9 units in a bottle of wine – the equivalent of drinking three large glasses of wine

So that’s only just over 2 bottles (6 or 7 large glasses) of wine a week and you’re over the safe limit

Now, there are 7 cancers that have been identified as having alcohol as a contributing factor

BREAST CANCER being one

Then there is diabetes…

Fatty liver disease and liver failure…

I once worked on a liver ward in St Georges Hospital before I became a nutritional therapist and as you can imagine there were a number of alcoholics on the ward.

I remember one lady particularly so.

Only in her early 40’s and you could tell she was quite attractive, apart from the yellow skin, yellow eyes and large swelling of the tummy called ascites (a mass of fluid in the tummy around a badly diseased liver).

Such a shame, and just one of many people like that on the ward.

I remember that all the alcohol gel hand cream had to be removed from the ward as the patients would drink them – scary eh?

When I help people lose weight there is one thing that people struggle to change or stop doing…

CUT ALCOHOL OUT

They can eat meat for breakfast, eat more veg, cut out carbs – but struggle or just don’t want to stop drinking

There are at least a couple hundred calories in a glass of wine – it’s full of sugar and causes all sorts of blood sugar problems

And it causes you to binge eat, especially junk food…

So, I still haven’t figured out why people who want to get in shape won’t cut it out

If there is one simple thing you can do to get in shape try stopping booze for a month and see what happens to your body, energy levels, mood, memory etc…
